Superman for a Superfan: The Mike Meyers Project

Hey, everyone.

I'm sure most of you have heard by now of the travesty that has befallen one Mike Meyers of Granite City, IL. If you haven't, let me give you the short version (or you can read the article here). Mike is a longtime Superman fan who had amassed a large collections of comics, toys, and various other memorabilia pertaining to the character over many years. Recently, a good portion of this collection was robbed from him by an acquaintance who posed as a friend so as to get access to his collection. To make matters worse, Mike is also mentally handicapped. Not only did this guy steal from someone, he stole from a handicapped person. I could rant all day about that, but I won't. I'm going to get down to the brass tacks (you heard me).

Tons of people are already chipping in to piece this guy's collection back together, and that's awesome. It is. But I'd like to do something particularly special (since I'm from St. Louis, and this guy might as well be my neighbor). I'm headed to New York Comic-Con in October, and I'll be armed with a themed sketchbook. It's my hope to take this thing around the 'Con, finding all the notable pros, and asking for sketches of Superman dedicated to Mike. When I return home to St. Louis, I'll then personally (at least, I'd like to do it personally. I know that one of Mike's friends has been handling all donations, so I might have to do it through him) deliver it to Mike. Basically, it's one hell of a glorified "Get Well" card.

Why am I writing this post, you ask? Well, that's a good question. It's my hope that we can retweet, reblog, retumbl or whatever this mission of mine so I can maybe get some of these awesome creators to expect me and be eager to participate. There are long lines at these conventions, and truthfully, my trip there is first and foremost a business endeavor (I'm trying to be a comic artist, too, after all), so any way to make this task a little easier is all the better.

So that's the deal. I'll be attending NYCC with a sketchbook waiting to be filled by any and every artist that wants to contribute a Superman piece. I hate to even say it, but this is absolutely not a scam. I will not break apart the sketchbook to try and sell it or keep it for myself. I know that may be a cause of concern for some people. And I'm also not asking for lavish illustrations. Quick profiles, little doodles, whatever. Just so long as it's Superman.

Oh! If you'd like to contact me to set up a sketch or something like that, please do!

Please pass along this info, and I'll see you in the Big Apple!

Just some drawings I've done the past two weeks. Gotta keep up the online presence these days. A brunette Supergirl and Goku trying not to get hit by Vegeta.

Enjoy!
